Book Review: The Paper Palace - Miranda Cowley Heller

Synopsis

On a perfect August morning, Elle Bishop heads out for a swim in the pond below 'The Paper Palace' - her family's holiday home in Cape Cod. As she dives beneath the water she relives the passionate encounter she had the night before, against the side of the house that knows all her darkest secrets, while her husband and mother chatted to their guests inside...

So begins a story that unfolds over twenty-four hours and fifty years, as Elle's shocking betrayal leads her to a life-changing decision - and an ending you won't be able to stop thinking about.

Review

Where do I start with this?! Ever since joining bookstagram I’ve heard people talking about ‘book hangovers’ but had never experienced one, until this book! There is so much packed into this book without it feeling too much. It is beautifully written and the language used is stunning.

The book itself is a heartbreaking look at love, family dynamics, missed love and friendship. I’ll be honest at this point I’m really struggling to write the review - I can’t sum up how much I enjoyed it and how much depth is in the book in a caption. It’s just a brilliant read, you’ll fall for the characters and question how you’d react in particular situations.

I 100% recommend this, if you’re a fan of Where the Crawdads Sing I think you’ll enjoy this but if you weren’t I feel like you still might like it. What a copout, it just has a similar setting, and the family drama but other than that I can’t think of a similar book!
